Title

Ah, the unassuming aster – a flower often associated with wisdom, love, and faith. On its own, it may appear plain, but when gathered together in abundance, it transforms into an exquisite display of vibrant magenta pink hues. In this painting, I have placed the asters on the mantelpiece in my dining room, nestled among cherished family heirlooms: my grandma's antique clock and a treasured brass candlestick.

Although the clock has long ceased to function, it continues to hold a special place in my heart, as it brings back fond memories of my grandmother. Each time I glance at it, I am reminded of her warmth and the love she shared.

My atmospheric dining room has always been a favourite space of mine to paint, as it lends a captivating backdrop to many of my canvases. In this particular piece, I was struck by the unique challenge of painting my own works as they appeared, reflected in the mirror. It was a surreal experience to capture the essence of my art within art, adding another layer of depth and meaning to the piece.

As I painted the asters against the backdrop of my treasured belongings and the reflective mirror, I was reminded of the intricate connections between our past, present, and future. The asters, a symbol of love and faith, seem to represent the enduring bonds we share with our loved ones, even after they are gone.

This painting, in all its complexity, serves as a tribute to the power of memory, the beauty of familial connections, and the transformative nature of art. Each time I look upon it, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the moments and memories that have shaped my life, and for the humble aster, which has become a symbol of the enduring love we carry within us.
