Over the final days of their brief yet brilliant lifespan, I chose to immortalize these two remaining flowers from a generous birthday bouquet I had received the previous year. The blossoms were so fully open that they were shedding layers upon layers of petals every hour, their fleeting beauty a poignant reminder of life's transience. To capture that precise moment in time when the last layer of petals remained intact, I took numerous photos, ensuring that the essence of their fragile beauty would be preserved.

I carefully positioned the jar on my beloved Ercol side table, a treasured piece crafted from warm British elm wood. My goal was to create a striking contrast between the rich, earthy tones of the wood and the vibrant, sunlit hues of the flowers, as they basked in the bright afternoon light of late June. The interplay of warmth and vibrancy breathed new life into the scene, adding depth and complexity to the composition.

With my favourite Rosemary & Co brushes in hand, I painted using long, loose strokes, allowing the natural movement and flow of the flowers to guide me. The Winsor & Newton acrylic paints I chose were perfect for capturing the delicate, ethereal quality of the blossoms, while the Winsor & Newton Professional satin varnish provided a protective layer, ensuring the longevity of the artwork.

As I worked, I became acutely aware of the passage of time, the fleeting nature of beauty, and the power of art to preserve these ephemeral moments. The act of painting these blossoms became a meditation on life and impermanence, a tribute to the resilience of beauty in the face of inevitable change.

Now, as I gaze upon the completed piece, I am reminded of that late June afternoon and the tender, transient beauty of the blooms. Through this painting, I have not only captured a moment of time but also created a lasting testament to the power of art to evoke emotion, preserve cherished memories, and celebrate the beauty that exists all around us, even in the most fleeting of forms.
