Roses on the Parquet

Painted in July 2022, this piece was inspired by an engaging conversation I had with my friends about the role of colour in interior design. As we delved into the topic, I found myself drawn to the idea of creating a painting that captured warmth and mood, something that seemed to defy the quintessential summer atmosphere typically associated with July.

As I began to brainstorm ideas for the composition, I spent a considerable amount of time contemplating the perfect placement for the vase that would serve as the focal point of the piece. Amidst my indecision, I momentarily placed it on the floor while attending to the mundane task of boiling water for tea, and in that fleeting instant, I experienced a moment of serendipitous inspiration.

The way the vase rested on the floor, illuminated by the soft light filtering through the windows, seemed to capture the exact essence I was seeking—a sense of warmth, intimacy, and a mood that transcended the expectations of a typical summer scene. And just like that, as they say, the rest is history.

In this painting, I sought to translate that fortuitous moment onto the canvas, carefully rendering the interplay of light and shadow as it danced across the vase and the surrounding space. The choice of colours, the rich and earthy hues, further conveys a sense of warmth and coziness that invites the viewer to step into the scene and experience the soothing ambiance for themselves.

The subtlety of the composition, the way the vase unassumingly occupies the floor, serves as a poignant reminder that beauty and inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places and moments.
